WHAT IS E-LEARNING AS A CUMMUNITY (Edited)

WHAT IS E-LEARNING AS A CUMMUNITY?
Jefford Vinson E. Valdehueza, BTTE-IV

INTRODUCTION:

What is e learning?

E learning is an electronic learning system of education by using internet as a medium of studies or learning. Nowadays, people are tending to learn how to use computers, laptops and any other gadget in order to get information or data.

Why?

Because it is easier to manipulate and with just one click everything you wanted is there in the world wide web of internet. All the information is there from history, current events, fashion, food, location, weather, lifestyle, and etc; everything is there. All you have to do is browse and click or search the link of a specific website.

The advantage:

The advantage of E-learning to a student and as well as to the teachers are, it is easy to manipulate, it comes in handy, everything is there, cheaper, user friendly, reliable and always available. Easy to manipulate, even kids nowadays know how to use the computer as early as 5 years old they already have freindster. Computer subject is now being part of the curriculum. It comes in handy; we can see that technology really evolves very fast; maybe because people would love to see things or gadgets to work all in one. Like cell phone before you can use it calling or texting message but now we can browse the internet on it and check our E-mail. Everything is there, all the information you wanted is there if you know how to use the computer. You can use Google, yahoo, you tube, and any websites you want to get information or data. Just simple type the thing that you want to search, then everything is there. The more advantages are it is cheaper, if you have the amount of p15 you can do everything search, read gather data, listen music and play movies. Everybody is accessible to use the computer as long as you can read instructions and open for new adventure. Computer is not that hard to use maybe it takes a little time to master the keys and function but in a while you could use it by yourself. It is really reliable because all the information you can get from the internet comes from a reliable source and it is true. For example if you search about healthy living, everything healthy living is there. All the tips are there on how to live a healthy body.

E-Learning is always available and reliable. As I read the research about the influence of Learning Style on Learners in E-Learning Environments by Nase-NickManochehr (2005), the learners have different results according on how they do respond the learning style. Their performance is very important of which their acquired knowledge transmitted in every activity.

Thus, E-learning or online study is partly a self study where an individual can make progress by themselves while they can go into a place and figure out how to make it more productive and profitable one but some hands on learn unmotivated learners or those with poor study habits may fall behind.

The Negative Effect

The negative effect of this learning may lack of familiar structure and routine in getting used to, the learners may feel isolated or miss interaction, instructor may not always be available on demand, slow or unreliable internet connections can be frustrating, managing learning software can involve a learning curve and, some courses such as traditional hands-on courses can be difficult to stimulate.

It is important to acknowledge that quality of a learning process is not something that is delivered to a learner by an e-learning provider but rather constitutes a process of co production between the learner and the learning-environment. That means that the product/ outcome of an educational process are not exclusively a result of the production process of an educational institution. Quality therefore has to do with empowering and enabling the learner. It has to be defined at the final position of the provision of the learning-services: the learner.

The report outlines out of the goals, development, and evaluation of e-learning among youth. It illustrates many benefits of e-learning, new technologies of learning & reveals the conclusive evidence that e-learning will not only improve the skills of students, but it will serve as an additional advantage in their careers. The report also discusses the rural and remote issues faced by students but overall its shows the effectiveness of e-learning among young learners .It also includes the employer’s view about the e-learning programs. The report describes learners preferences in e-learning based on results of survey in this field. It thus facilitates the construction of learner oriented services portfolios in e-learning.

CONCLUSION:

Learning communities can provide benefits to individual members and the community as a whole by developing the capacity or enhancing the potential of members, as our composite definition above suggests. Research into the outcomes from learning communities reveals benefits as diverse as economic prosperity (Adult Learning Australia, 2000; Yarnit, 2000) and improved student academic and social achievement (Calderwood, 2000; Gabelnick et al., 1990). A series of intermediate benefits enable these higher order benefits to be realized.

In educational institutions, research has identified benefits, for staff, related to diminished isolation, collaboration among colleagues, increased curricular integration, a fresh approach to academic disciplines, and increased satisfaction with students’ learning (Kezar, 1999; Collier, 2002). The benefits of learning communities are enhanced if there is a professional learning culture that values professional development (Peterson, 2002), and a climate of openness that promotes sharing of knowledge, dialogue, inquiry and risk-taking, and gives constructive feedback to people at all levels (Taylor, 2002; Watkins & Marsick, 1999). The establishment of trust is also essential to the success of working collaboratively. A reciprocation of trust needs to be built between peers or between peers and leaders (e.g. the principal). Without a “culture of trust” (Taylor, 2002, p. 43), team members will find it difficult to experiment or attempt to put into place new ideas.
